IMPROV CLASSES FOR KIDS

We offer fun-filled improv classes for kids of all ages!

Improv Classes for Kids Ages 1st to 4th Grade & 5th-8th Grade!

In a warm, playful environment, kids will explore improv through silly games and creative storytelling in a friendly, supportive space. They’ll practice listening, teamwork, and expression—all while laughing and having fun. No experience (or performance background) required—just curiosity and a sense of play!
Improvisation helps kids (and families) grow into better humans. Through theater games rooted in Viola Spolin’s work, children learn how to:
  • Align mind and body through playful expression.
  • Celebrate differences in thought, creativity, and perspective.
  • Build resilience by saying “yes” and building on new ideas and experiences.
  • Develop empathy and collaboration by creating together.
  • Most importantly…have fun.

Our classes aren’t just about performance, but about process. Kids will learn confidence, communication, and connection in a very fun and engaging way!

The Home Theater is a neighborhood space for creativity and community—where kids and families can come together to play, laugh, and explore.

About the Instructor: Megan Redfearn brings over 20 years of experience in both improv and education. Her research explores how improv can be used in leadership development, and she teaches a course at Northwestern University on using improv for learning and building relationships. A former 5th grade teacher and longtime CPS volunteer, Megan is passionate about helping kids grow their confidence, creativity, and collaboration skills through play. Most importantly, she’s the mom of two imaginative kids (ages 6 and 9), who keep her improv skills sharp every day!

We adjusted the age groups slightly this year so that our returning students could continue with the program. If you have a child who is between age groups, or if it would work much better for your family to have siblings attend the same session, please reach out. We want to make the program as welcoming and workable for families as we can!
