IMPROV TEACHER BIO

LIZ ALLEN

Liz Allen has performed, coached, and directed improv for the past 32 years and is a Curriculum Advisor of The HOME Theater.
Liz performed with iO Chicago Theater’s house team “Frank Booth”, taking the first-ever long-form to the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in 1995. At iO Chicago, Liz has taught Levels 1 through Advanced Harold, and was Training Center Director for 3 years. In 1999, 2000 & 2001, Liz won the “Del Close Coach of the Year Award”, later renamed the “Liz Allen Excellence in Teaching Award.”
Liz coached iO’s teams “Valhalla”, “Fatty Four Eyes” and “Mission Improvable” (founders of the Westside Comedy Theater in LA), and the Improv Shop’s “Putty and Daddy Long Legs” in St. Louis. She directed “Devolution” (written by Sean Benjamin) at The Neofuturarium, and directed a main stage revue for The Second City at the Flamingo Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas.
The Vegas Theater Hub awarded Liz Best Guest Speaker of the Year and Best Workshop of the Year 2015.
Liz was honored to coach “The Commune”, the improv ensemble in Mike Birbiglia’s 2016 feature film Don’t Think Twice.
In 2019, Liz directed “The Family Affair”, which performed at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. During lockdown, Liz switched to Zoom classes…and didn’t hate it.
These days Liz travels and teaches improv online and in-person to corporations, improvisers and public-speaker-types including Neal Katyal, MSNBC analyst. Liz recently completed her scripted solo show “Tonight I Am My Mother. “
